An Age of Barbarism

The Middle Ages were a time of naked violence and barbarism. Notions like “chivalry” and “religion” are but thin veils to hide from the grim truth that might makes right. The world is ruled by men who live by the sword and die by the sword. You could cut your own bloody path to power, wealth, and glory, too, if you’re strong enough, skilled enough, and most importantly, brutal enough.

See: Conan the Barbarian, Game of Thrones, or Ironclad

Examples of…

  • Invoking: You raise a sword covered in the blood of your enemies and demand the obedience of those around you on pain of death.
  • Enduring: You try to de-escalate a fraught situation.
  • Compelling: You could solve this problem by simply killing the man.
  • Declaring: You pass a battlefield soon after the fighting has ended.
  • Substituting: You can’t use a dream aspect to substitute for a skill, though the GM might use it to set a dynamic difficulty in some specific circumstances.
